Earth Day 2017: Here’s Why You Should Get Involved

Earth Day is a global event aimed at broadening, diversifying and activating the environmental movement, through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer campaigns. It takes place on Saturday, April 22, and there are events planned across the world  in celebration.

Why Is Earth Day Important?
At Trees4Life, we’re passionate about protecting the planet and tackling climate change by planting and preserving trees. Earth Day is the biggest event on the calendar for raising awareness of environmental issues and every year it inspires people to make positive changes to help care for our planet. Every year, more than one billion people participate in Earth Day activities.

It all started back in 1970 when the first Earth Day was held in America. Some 20 million Americans got involved and it is said to have kick started the modern environmental movement which has led to so much positive change. Activities aren’t just focused around one day, though – the Earth Day Network organises campaigns all year round and some communities observe Earth Week or Earth Month.

How Can I Get Involved?
From making a pledge to live a greener life to organising an Earth Day activity in your local area, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved. Earth Day is a day for taking care of the planet, in whatever way you feel like. There are no set rules.

Why not find out whether there is a community event taking place near you? Or you could gather together family and friends for your own Earth Day celebration. You could even plant a tree to mark the occasion and do something to preserve the planet at the same time. However you take part, it’s important to remember that taking care of the planet doesn’t have to be confined to one day – it should happen all year round.

What Else Can I Do?
As part of living a more ‘greener life’ you could try using alternative cleaning products that are eco-friendly.  They don’t contain toxic chemicals and the packaging used is all biodegradable, recyclable and overall environmentally friendly!  To shop green cleaning products click here.
